Schulz silent as "Libs of TikTok" reveals woke Howard County Public Schools content
To culture war, or not to culture war?
Early yesterday morning, the bravely counter cultural Twitter account “Libs of TikTok” revealed how Howard County Public Schools has plans to promote transgenderism to pre-K and elementary school aged children, by hosting a voluntary after school reading of a book titled “Calvin”, about a girl who decides to become a boy and receives the affirmation of her family in doing so.
The revelation promptly went viral on Twitter, and was soon after circulated on Facebook via grassroots organizations dedicated to parental rights in education.
Trump endorsed gubernatorial candidate Dan Cox was quick to share the “Libs of TikTok” tweet on Facebook, and reminded parents they have the right to opt their children out of whatever activities they may be uncomfortable with, accurately referring to such state sponsored gender theory indoctrination as “madness”.
Cox’s opponent though, the Larry Hogan endorsed Kelly Shulz, who many regard as the presumptive favorite in the race, has yet to remark on the matter as far as we can tell, demonstrating a marked difference in the political philosophy of the two candidates, and more broadly showing the fissure that has grown inside the Republican party, which would seem to boil down to this: to engage in the culture wars, or not to engage in the culture wars?
Cox, like Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis before him, heads fearlessly into the fray to fight for his convictions.
The same may not be able to be said of Shulz, who for example recently declared she is indeed pro-life, but has no intention of trying to change Maryland’s abortion laws, which permit the life terminating procedure to be done up until the point of fetal viability.
But with regard to the reading of “Calvin” in HCPS, and the school system’s slate of activities scheduled for “Pride Week”, we know where Dan Cox stands on the subject — what of Shulz?
Does she share Cox’s view that this sort of content being promoted by schools is madness? Maybe she thinks that, as long as the activities are voluntary, no harm no foul?
Well, seeing as how Shulz appears to be abstaining from comment, and has been unwilling to speak freely in open debate – we may never find out.
Whether or not this is good politics remains to be seen.
