Carroll's Republican Central Committee Undecided On New Member
On Tuesday, Carroll County’s Republican Central Committee held a vote to determine which applicant would be added to the nine member administrative body, but no one candidate was able to secure the five votes necessary to be included.
One spot is available on the body because Jay Sivigny, husband to Board of Education member Donna Sivigny, has stepped down as a member of the Committee.
The remaining eight Committee members are:
Joe Leeman (Chair)
Cathey Allison
Karen Leatherwood (Secretary)
Katherine Adelaide
Krista Schultz
Rich Collins
Sam Jones (Treasurer)
Scott Hollenbeck
Remarking on Tuesday’s meeting, Katherine Adelaide called into the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Thursday, and said there was a “robust debate” though a decision on who to add was unable to be made.
If the eight members are unable to come to a five vote majority on who to add, chair Joe Leeman will be tasked with making the decision.
In June of this year, after Deb Thomas stepped down as a Committee member, Sam Jones, legislative aide to Senator Justin Ready, was voted onto the body by the remaining members.
Other candidates considered at that time were Al Grasley, a Sykesville Town Council member, Bryan Thomspon, chair of Carroll’s Family Life Advisory Council, Ray Fava, a former District 1 Commissioner candidate, Robin Frazier, a former District 1 Commissioner, and Rod Harrison.
The mission of Carroll’s Republican Central Committee is to “support Republican candidates for elective office and promote the Republican Party in Carroll County,” according to the body’s website.
